Summer is soon approaching and outdoor temperatures are on the rise. Don’t let the temperatures in the summer keep you from staying in shape! There are still several ways to keep cool this summer without having to ditch your workout routine. Here’s a list of great ideas for staying fit this summer.

6 Ways to Stay in Shape During the Hot Summer Months

1. Walk the Mall

Many local malls open their doors early for morning walkers. This is a great time to get in a good walk before the malls start to get too crowded with shoppers. Burn calories while you enjoy a walk in a comfortable indoor climate! You can even call up a friend or two and invite them to walk with you. The time seems to go by faster when you are walking and talking at the same time!

2. Swim Laps at the Pool

Call your local pool to see if they are open for lap swimming. Some pools devote a certain time specifically for lap swimming before the pool is open to the public. Even if you are a beginner swimmer, you can still grab a kick board and kick up and down the lanes for an amazing leg workout.

3. Bike Rides with the Family

After dinner and when the weather gets cooler in the evenings, head out for a family bike ride around the neighborhood! This is a great way to spend time with the family while making memories and burning calories, too!

4. Workout at Home

Stay indoors and dust off your workout DVDs! Find a place in your home where you have plenty of room to move around and complete workout DVDs at your own pace. There are so many great DVD workouts out there, so find one that is based on your fitness level and goals.

5. Join the Gym

If you don’t like to workout at home and if you have room in your budget, consider joining a gym. You can stay cool in the AC and join in on great cardio classes to stay fit. If you have small children, look for a gym that offers childcare while you workout. Some gyms offer up to two hours of childcare while you workout! You can always “try before you buy” and make sure you like the gym before signing any contracts.

6. Eat Clean

Summer is the perfect season for enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet as well as drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated during extremely hot summer days. Stock up on strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, pineapple, mangoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and more during the summer! You can make so many delicious smoothies or fruit salads during the summer with fresh produce! Get creative!
