Busy Boxes for Babies

Do you want to create a busy box for a baby? Learn what items are great to include in Busy Boxes for Babies!

Babies are naturally curious about their surroundings and learn through playing! Providing a variety of age appropriate items for babies to explore during their stages of development is important.

Busy boxes are a great way to help babies explore their surroundings and learn fine motor skills, colors, sounds, and more!

What is a busy box?

A busy box is a box filled with age appropriate toys, books, activities, and other items for a child to engage with and to help keep him or her entertained. Busy boxes are excellent for helping babies with fine motor skills.

Safety first!

One of the most important things to consider when creating your busy box is safety. The items you put in a busy box for your baby need to be age appropriate for the baby depending on his or her age.

Babies love to use their mouths to explore new items! Items in a baby box need to be large enough so that the item doesn’t become a choking hazard. Always check to make sure the items in your baby box are safe for baby before allowing your baby to explore the box!

How many items should be in a busy box for baby?

Babies don’t need too many items in their busy box. I recommend adding about 5-10 different items in your baby’s busy box.

What do I use to create a busy box?

The box doesn’t have to be very large. You can create a variety of different boxes using clear storage boxes. The list of items below will give you great ideas to include in your baby’s busy box.

Where do I store busy boxes?

Depending on how many boxes you create, you can store boxes in a closet, garage, under beds, or any place you feel is safe for your boxes.

Rotate boxes out daily, weekly, or monthly when you’d like to have baby explore different items!
