How to Make Life With Your Newborn Easier

Prepare and Get Ready

From setting up the nursery to picking the right baby clothes, blankets and crib sheets, this is the first place to get started on, and ideally even before you get back home with your baby.

Having this check off of your list will make things a lot easier and stress free for you. You might also want to prep meals in advance and even cook extra and store it in the fridge- ready to be thawed, heated and served.

Delegate

One of the most important things most moms need to learn is to delegate tasks and get that helping hand as much as they can. This was always a hard thing for me to do as a mom, but it’s so important. Once you learn how to ask for help, it gets easier with time.

Pregnancy and childbirth can take a lot out of you, and getting that little help to warm the milk or heat the dinner or even rocking the baby to sleep can go a long way in helping you reduce the stress and exhaustion following birth.

Sleep More

We can’t stress enough on this one! Getting enough sleep and rest is crucial for a new mom, and no matter what, make sure you don’t compromise on this one. Sneak in day naps if your little one keeps you awake at night. Allow your body to rest and recover as much as you can during this delicate time.

Take it Easy

Regardless of what kind of birth you’ve had, make sure to take it easy for the first few weeks. Use this time to truly relax, and say no to things you can’t do. Trying to do too much together and everything on your own can burn you out pretty quick, and it can also put you at a risk of postpartum depression.

Stock Up

Diapers, wipes and other baby essentials that you need all the time – it makes sense to stock up on them as much as you can. This will save you a lot of headache and trouble of having to rush out and get more when you run out of them.

Don’t Get Discouraged

Last, but definitely not, as much as you might be tempted to give up, don’t get discouraged with breastfeeding. It might be one of the most challenging things you will have to do, but keep going. You might have to try different positions to ensure that your baby latches on correctly – don’t get anxious.

Rely on help from other moms you know, your nurse or just a few tools and items (like a nursing pillow) to make it a smoother process for you.
