Memorial Day Painting Ideas

May 27, 2023 by Mom. Wife. Busy Life.

Memorial Day, celebrated on the last Monday in May, honors the brave men and women who died serving in the US military.

It’s a day to appreciate the sacrifices of those who fought to defend our country and preserve democracy.

If you’re planning to celebrate Memorial Day with your family, why not add some creativity to your celebration by painting some patriotic art with your children?

To help you get started, we’ve rounded up ten amazing Memorial Day painting ideas that all moms will love.

American Flag Painting

Painting the American flag is a great idea to show your love and patriotism towards America.

You can paint the flag on canvas or create a flag art project using construction paper, glue, and paint.

Encourage your children to practice their painting skills when decorating the stripes and choosing patriotic colors.

Poppy Painting

Red poppies are the traditional symbol of Remembrance Day and Memorial Day.

Let your children create poppy paintings using shades of red, orange, and yellow. You can mix in other colors to create contrast and texture.

If you’re hosting a gathering, hang these paintings around the house to evoke the spirit of Memorial Day.

Bald Eagle Painting

The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. It symbolizes freedom and strength.

Let your children paint a bald eagle perched on a rock or flying high in the sky.

Encourage them to add as many details as they can, like the eagle’s white head and tail feathers, sharp talons, and piercing eyes.

Camouflage Painting

Military camouflage is an icon of the US army.

You can show your appreciation by reinventing its green and brown patterns into an abstract painting.

Give your child a chance to mix different shades of green and use them to create a camouflage pattern.

Frame and hang the finished painting on your wall as a remembrance for the day.

National Monuments Painting

National monuments like the Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, and Mount Rushmore represent the pride America has for its cultural heritage.

These monuments make great subjects for paintings that kids can create on their own.

Ask your children to research some national monuments, then use acrylic or watercolor paints to bring their selected monument to life.

Soldier Salute Painting

Soldiers are an integral part of Memorial Day.

You can show your child how to paint a soldier standing at attention or in uniform saluting their fallen colleagues.

Using a light blue backdrop reminiscent of a clear sky, you can add some clouds and other embellishments to create a stunning finished painting.

Memorial Day Wreath Painting

Painting a wreath is a great way to show respect to the fallen soldiers’ families who have lost loved ones at war.

Using some green paint, have your children draw a green wreath in the center of the canvas and then add some patriotic flowers like lilies, roses, and poppies in red, white and blue.

Patriotic Heart Painting

Hearts symbolize love and affection.

This makes them an ideal canvas for painting our love for soldiers who gave their lives.

Use red, white, and blue paint to paint a heart shape and express your gratefulness for those who fought for our freedom.

Thank You Banner Painting

A banner is a simple way to express appreciation to those who fought for our freedom.

You can help your children paint a banner that says “Thank You.” Make sure to feature the Stars and Stripes of the US flag on the letters.

Ballistic Missile Painting

A Ballistic missile represents the force and strength of the military life. If your child is passionate about military inventions, give them a chance to paint one.

Using a long and slender canvas, let your child draw a missile with its contrails as it shoots across the canvas.

Get started on your Memorial Day painting ideas!

There’s no better way to celebrate Memorial Day than by creating artwork that honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

These ten painting ideas are an excellent starting point for creating amazing and patriotic pieces of art you and your children will cherish for years to come.

So go ahead and unleash your creative side, and show your appreciation for the service members who have fallen while serving our country.
