Memorial Day Crafts for Infants

May 27, 2023 by Mom. Wife. Busy Life.

As Memorial Day approaches, it’s important to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

For parents with infants at home, it can be tough to find meaningful ways to commemorate the holiday with little ones who may not yet understand the significance.

But fear not! There are plenty of Memorial Day-themed crafts that you and your infant can enjoy together.

Here are five fun ideas to get you started.

Handprint American Flag

This classic craft is easy to tailor to your baby’s developmental stage. Simply paint your baby’s hand with blue paint and press it onto white paper.

Once the paint has dried, add red stripes with finger paints, and attach a wooden dowel or straw to the back for a handheld flag.

Star-Spangled Footprints

For a variation on the handprint flag, paint your baby’s foot with blue paint and press it onto a white paper plate.

Once the paint is dry, use a Q-tip to add red paint dots around the blue footprint, then add white paint dots to create stars.

This craft makes a great keepsake to hang up year after year.

Patriotic Sensory Bottles

Sensory bottles are a fun and interactive way for infants to explore different colors and textures.

Patriotic Sensory Bottle

For a Memorial Day twist, fill a water bottle with red, white, and blue glitter and confetti, and seal the lid tightly.

Your baby will love shaking and spinning the bottle to watch the glitter swirl around.

Red, White, and Blue Sensory Bags

Similar to sensory bottles, sensory bags provide a mess-free way for infants to safely explore different textures.

To make a patriotic sensory bag, fill a plastic bag with hair gel, shaving cream, or another soft substance, along with red and blue food coloring.

Seal the bag and let your baby squish and play with the bag to create swirling designs.

Stars and Stripes Drum

If your infant loves making noise, this craft is the perfect fit.

Simply wrap a clean coffee can in white paper, then add red and blue stripes and white stars with construction paper or stickers.

Fill the can with beans or rice to create a fun drum that your baby can bang on all day long.

Get started on your Memorial Day crafts for infants!

Although your infant may not fully understand the significance of Memorial Day, these easy and fun crafts provide a great opportunity to start the conversation and introduce them to this important holiday.

Whether you choose to create a handprint flag or a sensory bottle filled with red, white, and blue glitter, these activities are sure to create lasting memories for you and your little ones.

Happy crafting, and have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day!
