Five Ways to Earn Money as a Stay-at-Home Mom

Ways to Earn Money as a Stay-at-Home Mom

Are you a stay-at-home and wanting to contribute more to the family finances? Well now you can! There’s so many options out there for stay-at-home moms. Here are a few great ways I’ve earned extra money while staying-at-home with the kids.

Ways to Earn Money as a Stay-at-Home Mom

1. Start a Blog and Monetize It

I started a money saving blog, The Frugal Free Gal, the first year I became a stay at home mom in 2008. I currently own two blogs (see them all here) and I do monetize both of them. I enjoy blogging at home because I am able to keep a very flexible schedule. I can attend social events during the week such as Bible Study, school events, meetings, and more. With three kids, a flexible schedule is very important to me.

2. Join Survey Sites

While completing online surveys may not be enough to qualify as a full-time job, it can be a great way to earn some easy money or rewards in your spare time. Check out sites like Survey Junkie and Vindale Research. They are free to join. These companies need opinions from moms just like you to make their clients’ sites and products better, and you can get paid or receive rewards in exchange! My best advice is to find one or two sites that are right for you. Browse through each site to see what they offer and you’ll get a good idea of which site(s) are worth your time, efforts, and energy according to your interests.

3. Earn Cash Back and Rewards

There are so many ways to earn gift cards and rewards, as well as cash back. I love to save my gift cards and rewards for Christmas and birthday presents! Here are two ways to earn:

4. Learn Photography.

There are many families that love to have their family portraits taken at a reasonable cost. If you aren’t considered a “professional” photographer, offer your services at a deep discount while getting started. You can even let some families know that you are in training and need extra practice. There’s so much to choose from: newborn, pregnancy, family portraits, etc.

You can even submit your photos to websites like Shutterstock to earn a few extra dollars! View my online Shutterstock portfolio at Shutterstock.

5. Offer a Service

What things can you do that people would pay you for? Can you create or design websites, cook meals, cut lawns, clean houses or pick up other kids from school? Do you have what it takes to become a virtual assistant for bloggers? Chances are, whatever tasks you do every day, there are people out there who would pay you do them for them as well so they don’t have to. While it may take some creativity to find paying clients, this is a great way to find steady work doing a task you love.

Hi! These are great ideas. Do you have any idea where to start on the mystery shopper or the customer service phone calls? If so, please share. I’m in the process of going to PT to spend time with my kids, but I’m nervous because we SO MANY BILLS! I’d like to help out a bit more and these ideas would work perfectly! Thanks in advance!

Just a warning, you aren’t going to make much money doing secret shopping. It’s not the “dream job” described here. But, it can be nice to get a few extra dollars if you are going to the store anyway. It’s a little more than giving your opinion. There are strict guidelines to follow and a specific report with accurate timings to fill out. Check out Volition.com for a list of companies you can apply to.

Brooke start at the mspa. They are like the BBB of mystery shopping. Mysteryshop.org I think it is. All of the companies there are not allowed to charge a fee to shop for them. I have been mystery shopping for 3 years. I am a sahm with my son and usually make about $500 to $1300/month depending on how busy I want to stay. Good luck!

I drive a school bus if you have a child big enough to ride in a car seat like pre-k you can drive a school bus when my daughter was little I would get us both ready and go drive the bus and she could ride with me and I dropped her off with her class mates. Now she is all grown up and I have been driving for 14 yrs. Two hrs. in the morning and two hrs. in the afternoon. when my girl was sick I had a little sleeping bag she would lay on in the secretaries office till I got back. We would watch each others children if we had a field trip.
We don’t have to work week ends if we don’t want to.
