Different Ways to Make Slime
There are different ways to make slime.
The most popular method is to use slime recipes that use Borax or contact lens solution as the slime activator. In the recipe that I’m sharing with you today, we will use Borax!
Other ways to make slime include using liquid starch, which is a common laundry aid, or using baking soda and glue.
You can also make slime without any activator at all – just mix together some glue and food coloring!

What is Borax?
Borax is a naturally-occurring mineral that has a wide range of uses. It’s commonly used as a household cleaner or an insecticide, but it can also be used in arts and crafts projects. Borax is safe to use around children and pets, and it’s relatively inexpensive.
How to Make Basic Slime with Borax
Supplies:
Bowl #1:
- 1/2 cup Elmer’s school glue
- 1/2 cup of water
- food coloring (4-6 drops)
Optional Slime Add-Ins:
Bowl #2:
- 1 tsp. Borax
- 1 cup of water
(Use slime storage containers to store your slime!)
Directions:
1. In the first bowl, mix 1/2 c. glue and 1/2 c. water. Add food coloring.
2. In the second bowl, mix 1 tsp. Borax with 1 c. water.
3. Add mixture from the first bowl to the mixture of the second bowl and stir slowly. Slime will begin to form.
4. After stirring, knead with hands until all slime has been made. There may be water leftover. Simply pour out the leftover water.
Once slime has been formed, it’s playtime! Store slime in plastic zipper baggies to use for another time.
We made two different colors of slime including blue and pink. We were able to make two batches of slime and there was plenty of slime for both of the girls to play with!
