  • 5 Fun Activities to Keep the Kids Hydrated

Disclosure: This post is a sponsored guest post by frank green.

When the kids are at home, keeping them hydrated can be a bit of a challenge.

But what if you could make drinking water a fun experience?

Whether you’re hanging out at home, the kids have friends over or you’re out and about, a few clever strategies can make quenching their thirst a breeze.

By creating activities that centre on water, they’ll be sipping away happily before you (or they) know it.

We’ve got plenty of fun ideas to share, so grab your reusable bottle and let’s dive on in!

5 Fun Activities to Keep the Kids Hydrated

    1. Splash and Sip Outdoor Party

What do kids love more than parties? Water parks!

Creating your own splash zone outdoor party is a great way to help the kids cool off, while also helping them stay hydrated.

And you don’t even need a backyard pool to make it a success.

Sprinklers, mini pools, slip-and-slides and even water pistols can all be used to create different activities for the kids to enjoy.

To keep them hydrated while they’re having fun, set up some hydration stations, complete with fun straws, colorful cups and jugs of infused water, homemade lemonade, or delicious iced teas.

You can even use insulated reusable cups with lids to keep everything where it’s meant to be.

    2. Frozen Treats Workshop

Homemade frozen treats can be a great way to stay hydrated for kids and adults alike.

Getting the kids involved in making homemade ice pops, smoothies and other treats will get their curious minds thinking about the delicious hydrating snacks they can sip on.

As well as being hydrating and fun, homemade frozen treats allow you to pick exactly what’s going into them, making them as nutritious as you like.

Here’s a few easy recipes to try:

    • Banana Berry Popsicles: Blend up some bananas and berries, freezing them in ice-pop makers for a delicious and healthy treat. For a sweet surprise, add in berry pieces before popping them in the freezer.
    • Mango Sunset Iced Tea: Lightly brew up some tea, cool, and blend with fresh or frozen mango pieces. Crush up a punnett or two of raspberries, using a strainer to catch the seeds and pulp. Pour the blended mango tea into a cup, top with a swirl of raspberry juice, and serve.
    • Watermelon Sorbet Surprise: For a super fun, nutritious and H2O-packed dessert, try shaving some frozen watermelon with a squeeze of lemon juice — delicious!

    3. Hydration Scavenger Hunt

Watch the kids get excited when you tell them you’ve planned a scavenger hunt.

One of the best parts about scavenger hunts is they can be as short or long as you like, keeping kids busy for the perfect amount of time.

To keep the kids hydrated during their adventures, make some of the clues lead to water stations or make tasks involving drinking some delicious water in order to get to the next step.

For example, you could have a clue that leads to the fridge, with the next clue telling them to drink a glass of yummy infused water to receive their next clue.

    Their prize?

What about some of those delicious homemade frozen treats to quench their thirst after all that fun.

    4. Fruit Crafts

They say don’t play with your food, but we’ll make an exception for this one.

Fruit is full of water so is great for a snack that helps keep the kids hydrated too.

But rather than just a normal plate of fruit, why not make it fun with some fruity arts and crafts?

Fruit crafts are a fun way to help kids improve their fine motor skills, but it also gives you a chance to sneak in some extra hydrating berries, pieces of watermelon, apple slices and more.

You can keep it simple by giving the kids some fruit slices and vegetables cut into fun shapes to create a picture.

Or, for the older kids, add toothpicks to the mix and they can make their own little sculptures.

And at the end, they have a healthy snack to munch on to keep them distracted even longer. Win-win!

    5. Mocktail Making Class

Why not get science-y in the kitchen with a mocktail lab. The kids will love coming up with their own mocktail creations and mixtures.

All you’ll need to run your own mocktail making class at home is a shaker or two, ice, fresh juices, fresh fruits, and a few garnishes like cocktail umbrellas and fruit pieces.

If your kids are a little older, you can even have them muddle together fruits and flavors to create new, unique and tasty drinks.

It’s a fun way for the kids to stay busy, keep hydrated and even find some new favorite flavors along the way.

There are so many fun ways to keep the kids entertained and hydrated after school, on weekends and the school holidays.

With a little creativity, you can get the kids involved in their own H2O quenching needs, making quenching that thirst a fun experience for all!

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream

Learn how to dye Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream! This is a fun way to dye eggs this year.

how to dye Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream

    Easter is coming up!

My girls are at the age where they love to experiment with different ways of doing things, especially with food coloring.

More fun ways to dye Easter Eggs:

During the month leading up to Easter, we dye a lot of Easter eggs. I’ve heard of dyeing Easter eggs with shaving cream, but I wanted to try something a little bit safer and try dyeing eggs in whipped cream!

I think dyeing eggs with whipped cream provides more of a “hands-on” experience than just dipping them in water/vinegar/food coloring and then taking them out.

Dyeing Easter eggs with whipped cream does allow the colors to mix a little more for a cool effect on each egg!

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream

    Supplies:

    • 1 tub of whipped cream
    • large muffin pan
    • plastic spoon
    • toothpicks
    • food coloring
    • boiled eggs
    • bowl of white vinegar

    Directions:

Hard-boil the eggs by covering them with cool water by about 1 inch. Bring water to a boil over medium heat. Cover and remove from heat. Let sit 12 minutes.

Fill the cups of a muffin pan with whipped cream.

    whipped cream eggs 5

Add about 6-8 different drops of food coloring into each cup.

    whipped cream eggs 6

Using a toothpick or spoon to swirl the colors slightly in each cup. Be sure to wipe off the spoon or use new toothpicks for the other colors so that you don’t mix them!

    whipped cream easter eggs 7

Dip each egg in a bowl of vinegar for a few seconds.

    6. Place the egg into a muffin cup. Allow the eggs to sit in the color for about a minute or two.

**NOTE: Do not leave the eggs in the vinegar too long! The first time I tried dyeing the eggs, I had a major fail. I accidentally left the eggs in the vinegar too long. BIG mistake. That’s why it’s important to only dip the eggs for a few seconds. I did this a second time and finally got it right!

    whipped cream easter eggs 8

Slightly turn the egg over to color the other side. Wipe off your fingers when turning the eggs in the other cups to avoid mixing the colors.

    whipped cream eggs 10

Take each egg out of the cup and rinse the egg off. Pat dry.

If the color isn’t as bold as you’d like, re-dip egg into the vinegar and place back into the colors and roll the egg around until you get it as bold as you’d like. You can even add a few drops of food coloring if you’d like to get the colors just right! I re-dipped only a few of the eggs to get a better color on them.

Here’s how our eggs turned out. We placed them in a pretty basket! My girls are going to hide them for fun and find them!

  • 10 Ways to Cut Down on Toddler Messes

Toddlers are curious, energetic little beings who are always on the move, exploring their surroundings with unbounded enthusiasm.

While their inquisitive nature is delightful, it often comes with a price—messes. From food spills to toy scatterings, keeping up with a tidy home can feel like an uphill battle.

    However, fear not!

Today, we’ll explore ten practical ways to cut down on toddler messes, helping you maintain a clean and organized living space while still embracing the joys of your little one’s discoveries.

    Create a Child-Friendly Space

Designating a specific area for your toddler to play and explore can help contain the mess.

Use baby gates or playpens to enclose a safe zone where your child can freely engage in creative play without the worry of damaging other areas of the house.

This approach also makes tidying up more manageable as you can focus on a specific space.

    Establish Clear Boundaries

Teach your toddler where it’s appropriate to play and explore. Clearly communicate areas that are off-limits and establish rules for handling items, such as toys or art supplies, to avoid unnecessary messes.

Reinforce these boundaries consistently and patiently until they become second nature.

    Invest in Easy-to-Clean Furniture

Choose toddler friendly furniture and decor that are easy to clean.

Opt for washable slipcovers, stain-resistant materials, and furniture with smooth surfaces that can be wiped down quickly.

This way, spills and messes can be promptly addressed, preventing long-lasting stains or damage.

Use Highchair Mats and Splash Mats

Mealtime can often lead to messy adventures. Reduce the impact of spills by using highchair mats or splash mats under your toddler’s chair.

These mats catch food debris and liquids, making cleanup a breeze. Plus, they protect your floors from permanent stains or damage.

    Opt for Easy-to-Clean Mealtime Accessories

Choose mealtime accessories like suction plates, bowls, and utensils that are dishwasher-safe and made of durable materials.

Silicone bibs with catch-all pockets can also be a lifesaver for keeping your toddler’s clothes clean during messy eating sessions.

    Encourage Self-Feeding and Drinking Skills

Allowing your toddler to develop self-feeding and drinking skills can minimize mealtime messes in the long run.

Introduce age-appropriate utensils and cups designed for little hands to grip, and be patient as your child learns to master these skills.

Though it may get messy at first, the investment in their independence will pay off over time.

    Establish Routine Cleaning Habits

Incorporate regular cleaning routines into your daily schedule to stay on top of messes.

Clean up spills immediately to prevent stains and address messes promptly to avoid them piling up.

Involve your toddler in age-appropriate cleaning tasks, turning tidying up into a fun and educational activity.

    Chore Ideas for Toddlers

    Create Organized Storage Solutions

Having designated storage spaces for toys, books, and art supplies can help keep clutter to a minimum.

Utilize labeled bins, shelves, and storage containers to make it easy for your toddler to understand where items belong.

Encourage your child to participate in cleaning up by making it a game or offering rewards.

    Stuffed Animal Storage

    Limit Access to Messy Materials

Some messes are inevitable, especially when it comes to artistic pursuits.

To control the chaos, set up a designated art area with washable, child-friendly supplies, such as washable markers and non-toxic paints.

Supervise your toddler during these activities and provide guidance on containing the mess.

    Embrace Outdoor Play

When weather permits, take advantage of outdoor playtime. Encourage your toddler to explore nature, run around, and engage in messy play in the great outdoors.

This way, the messes are more likely to stay outside, making cleanup easier and your indoor space more manageable.

    Outdoor Activities for Toddlers

While it’s impossible to eliminate all toddler messes, implementing these ten practical strategies can significantly reduce the daily chaos and maintain a clean home environment.

By creating child-friendly spaces, establishing boundaries, using appropriate furniture and accessories, encouraging independence, establishing routines, and organizing storage solutions, you can strike a balance between letting your toddler explore and keeping your home tidy.

Remember, messy moments are part of the journey, so embrace them with patience, creativity, and a positive mindset.

  • Birthday Party Ideas for Teenagers

    Birthday Party Ideas for Teenagers

Do you have a teenager that will be celebrating a birthday soon?

Planning a birthday party for a teenager can be a bit more challenging than planning a birthday party for a baby, toddler, or elementary school child.

As children grow up into young adults, their tastes change big time and the entertainment is different.

Happy 14th Birthday Wishes and Quotes for Teenagers

    20 Best Gifts for Teens

They no longer care as much about bouncy castles, face painting, creative games, or even things like themed decorations.

    Birthday Party Ideas for Teenagers

Just because a child is a teen and not into birthday parties like he or she once was, you can still plan a fun celebration to fit his or her needs.

Below, you’ll find birthday party ideas for teenagers to help you plan for your next birthday party!

When planning a party, start by coming up with a guest list. Next, check to see the kind of budget that will be used for the party. This might come into play as to what kind of party to throw.

Once these two things are determined, it’s time to decide on where the party will be and what everyone will do.

You could always plan a classic sleepover or pool party, but these ideas below are cool ways to celebrate, too.

    Teen Mystery Party

Let teens become sleuths by hosting a teen mystery party.

This can be done as more of a formal dinner or just kept simple with food like hamburgers or pizza.

Murder Mystery Kits are available with everything needed to throw a great mystery party.

    Teen Party Limousine

If planning to go out for the party and if the finances allow, a really cool way to get around is in a limo.

Teens can talk it up while listening to music and everyone can be in a single vehicle at the same time.

This is especially good if some of the teens going are meeting each other for the first time.

    Laser Tag Party

Teens can have high tech fun and excitement with a laser tag party.

Oftentimes laser tag businesses also have party rooms so teens can eat at the same time.

    Mall Scavenger Hunt

Mall scavenger hunts are not only fun, they’re free!

Teens can work in teams of two while going through the local mall collecting items from a pre-made list.

Sample items include a plastic fork, a sample of cologne, a piece of toilet paper, a receipt, and a store business card.

Rules would need to drawn up such as no running or yelling so as not to bother shoppers.

Try to have at least 25 items to make the game last for awhile.

The team that finds everything first wins individual gift cards for a store in the mall.

    Teen Dance Party

A teen dance party can be a lot of fun, especially if activities are thrown in to get everyone dancing.

As some kids are shy, here are some ideas to get everyone dancing.

Have the birthday person pick a partner and start dancing. In a little while, have someone blow a whistle and then, both dancers have to pick a new partner.

Keep going until everyone is dancing!

How about a surprise dance in the dark?

All lights must be out for this one and any lights from music equipment covered.

Have each girl hold out her right and each guy hold out his left. Walk until everyone finds the hand of a partner.

Once everyone has a partner, have them dance to a song and when the song is over, everyone can be surprised with whom they danced with.

If there is an uneven amount and girls and guys, blow a whistle part way through the songs and change partners so hopefully those who didn’t find a partner the first time, will get one the second time.

    Teen Birthday Party Invitations

Why not create invitations on the computer that reflect the upcoming party?

For example, silhouettes of a couple dancing could be used for a dance party or a picture of the local mall could be used for a mall scavenger hunt party.
